The Aerapy Story
It will leave you hanging…
happily ever after.
Not everyone has the mojo to start and aerial movement in midlife. And yet, Aerapy Method® founder, Petra swears she had no choice. When her life as a New York fashion designer, moonlighting as a pop singer (in Japan) had come to a dead end, she had to rethink the big picture. Cramming to meet corporate deadlines by day and singing on stages by night — This lifestyle had locked her nervous system into always-ON-mode and serious case of burnout.
Over-doing it is known 21st Century hazard; so is adrenal fatigue. Petra's obsession with aerial came after those decades of burning the candle. As she explored ways for her self-prescribed, “Rx Slowdown”, Aerial yoga appeared to be the perfect fit. She wanted nothing more to suspend in the fabric, not for show, but to heal the chronic stress in her body. Her first classes included advanced, circus-y moves that came with a high risk of injury. Seeking a gentler version for non-acrobats, Petra eventually found her like-minded aerial teachers in Hawaii, Northern California, Costa Rica and New York. Learning about the fascia and finding a new relationship with gravity has been transformational; she went from a fashion designer creating with fabric to a fascia designer, floating in fabric—and Aerapy Method® was born. It is aerial movement made more accessible to help people liberate their mind and body from unhealthy patterns.
Now certified in Antigravity Fitness® by the world-established Christopher Harrison, she has recently opened her own affiliate studio in Brooklyn. There, she continues to hone Aerapy Method® and teach private classes and workshops that are as fun as they are healing. She believes all bodies, ages, and levels can enjoy the experience of moving in the air in a manner that’s exhilarating but also safe and calming to the nerves.
Aerapy Method® acknowledges the brilliant teachers, techniques that have deeply shaped it’s ethos and philosophy: Uplift Maui, AYRX by Jen Healy, Strala Yoga, Vayu Yoga by Ana Prada, Alicia Rypma of Marin Gyrotonic, The Iyengar Institute, The Alexander Technique, and The Institute of Thai (Yoga) Massage in Chiang Mai.
